Punjab launches Sanjivni Health Care Scheme

Chandigarh, Mar 29 (UNI) The Punjab government today formally launched ''Sanjivni Health Care Scheme'' first of its kind in north India for providing cheaper and quality health care specially for the poorer sections of society.

The scheme floated by the Rural Cooperative Societies was launched by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh here.

Speaking on the occasion, Capt Singh said that initially six lakh members of the Cooperative Societies from all over Punjab had been identified and would be enrolled under this scheme. The overwhelming response to this scheme was likely to attract ten lakh members in the near future.

Outlining the salient features of Sanjivni, Registrar Cooperative Societies and Deputy Chairman Sanjivni Trust,Mr Viswajit Khanna said the scheme provided cashless treatment in case of any medical/ surgical treatment where hospitalization exceeding 24 hours, was required. Dependents could get the treatment under the Scheme either in empanelled private hospital or in the Government Hospital upto a maximum of Rs lakh per annum on family floater basis.

Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, eye surgery, lithotripsy, tonsillectomy, coronary angiography are also covered under the scheme. Every female member or dependent shall be provided facility for delivery upto Rs 10,000 or to a maximum of Rs 25,000 in a year provided she does not have more than two living children. The newly born child would be automatically covered.

Each member enrolled under the scheme is required to pay a premium of Rs 300 per annum and an additional premium of 10 percent or 15 percent for dependent members of age less than 60 years or more than 60 years to less than 75 years, respectively.

Nearly 135 private hospitals have been empanelled under the scheme.

MEDSAVE Health Care Limited has been appointed as third party administrator and ICICI Lombard has been selected as Insurance Company to provide insurance cover.
