Orissa Assembly adjourned for 8th day amid Opposition demand
Bhubaneswar, Mar 29 (UNI) Orissa Assembly was today adjourned for the eighth consecutive day after the Opposition vociferously demanded resignation of State Excise Minister Kalandi Behera for his alleged involvement in the Ganjam liquor tragedy.
The House had been witnessing an unprecedented situation since March 21 with the Opposition members staging demonstration in support of their demand resulting in disruption of the proceedings.
As the House assembled for the day to take up the question hour, the Opposition trooped into the well and reiterated their demand for the resignation of the Excise Minister. They shouted slogans against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and attempted to climb to the podium to prevent Deputy Speaker Prahallad Dora going ahead with the business of the House.
Amid pandemonium, the Deputy Speaker adjourned the House till 1200 hours.
As the House reassembled after the adjournment, Speaker Maheswar Mohanty urged the members to cooperate with the business but in vain. He then asked some members to raise special mention amid din in the House.
Sensing that the Opposition was not in a mood to run the House till their demands were met, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
