Oppn forced government to admit cutailment on expenditure

Mumbai, Mar 29 (UNI) BJP leader in the Legislative Assembly Gopinath Munde today claimed that it was the agressive stand of the Opposition that had forced the government to admit that Governor S M Krishna had restrained releasing the entire amount of Rs 1,041 crore for irrigation department.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Munde said the government had taken the decision to allocate Rs 387 crore for North Maharashtra in the Cabinet about two months ago, but it had failed to seek the Governor's permission.

He said the Governor must ensure that Rs 287 crore grant will be released for North Maharashtra by March 31.

Mr Munde charged the government's intention was to divert the funds to other regions at the last minute.

He said Governor's decision to restrain expenditure of Rs 1,041 crore for the irrigation purpose had resulted in a constitutional deadlock.
