NPPA revises the prices of 25 bulk drugs

New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has revised the prices of 25 bulk drugs and 9 derivatives following reduction in the customs duty as announced in the Union Budget 2005-06.

This suo-motu exercise has been carried out to pass on the benefit of reduction of duties to the consumers at large. The prices of drugs whose rates were revised downward included Nalidixic Acid, Prednisolone, Prednisolone Acetate, Chloroquine Phosphate, Potassium Pencillin G (Procain Pen.G.), Potassium Pencillin G (Benzathine Pen.G), Vitamin C (plain), Vitamin C (coated), Sodium Ascorbate, Sulphamoxole, Erthromycin Estolate, Erthromycin Base, Erthromycin stearate, Vitamin A Palmitate and Dextropropoxyphene.

The reduction in the prices ranges from 0.02 to 3.17 per cent.

The price of Oxcarbazepine, a derivative of the bulk drug Carbamezapine, has been fixed for the first time at Rs 3280 per kg.

The Authority has approved prices in respect of 333 formulation pack. Of these, the ceiling prices in respect of 113 formulation pack have also been fixed to extend the same price for more than one unit manufacturing the same formulation. The Authority has also approved the prices of 220 non-ceiling packs.

Prices were also approved by the Authority for 234 formulation packs for the first time.
