New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) NGOs today filed public interest litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court seeking investigation into the 16,000-crore Scorpene submarine deal.

The NGOs--The Centre for Public Interest Litigation, Citizens forum against Corruption and Trasparency International, India-- have also sought criminal action against the beneficiaries who got Rs 640 crore as kickbacks in the controversial deal.

The PIL was numbered today and is likely to be listed for hearing before the court within the next few days.

The Centre has already assured that if some 'bungling' was found in the deal, it shall be scrapped altogether.

The UPA government has also noted that the deal was finalised during the NDA regime.

Abishek Varma, said to be close to Congress leaders, is facing allegations of being the key player in clinching the deal.
