Major fire reduces to ashes 200 houses

Malda, Mar 29 (UNI) At least 200 houses were reduced to ashes and a number of cattle heads perished when a major fire broke out at Englishbazar in the district today.

Police here said two fire tenders, pressed into service to douse the blaze, fought for one hour to bring it under control.

The damage was estimated to the tune of Rs 30 lakh.

Some people, who suffered minor burn injuries, had been admitted to hospital.

The reason of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
