Leptospirosis spreading in Gulbarga

Gulbarga, Mar 29 (UNI) More cases of Leptospirosis and chikangunya were being reported in all the ten taluks of this district, taking the total number of suspected cases to over 13,000 in the last one week.

District Health and Family Welfare Officer Pandurang Pujari today said the district administration and health department had jointly started fogging operations at 280 affected villages here to check the spread of chikangunya.

As many as 210 blood samples have been sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases in Bangalore and Pune for testing and the reports were awaited, he added.

He said the blood samples of the two persons, who had died yesterday after consuming a dead chicken, have been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for tests. He had yesterday denied reports that the two had fallen prey to the deadly bird flu virus and maintained that it was a case of food poisoning.
