Kunwar Narain gets prestigious Shalaka Samman
New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today presented prestigious Shalaka Samman award of Hindi Academy to noted Hindi poet Kunwar Narain.
At a function organised today by the Hindi Academy, she also gave away Sahitya Samman to 20 writers, best Hindi Journalist award to two journalists, Bal Kishore Sahitya Samman to six writers and Kaka Hathrasi award to one poet.
Awards function for the year 2005-06 was attended by large number of Hindi Writers, poets and critics.
Speaking on this occasion, Ms Dikshit said Hindi writers had been bringing awareness in the masses. She described Munshi Prem Chand as a great Hindi writer who used to express in simple words, which could be well understood by commonman.
She declared that an award in memory of Munshi Prem Chand would be instituted.
Ms Dikshit appreciated various activities of Hindi Academy.
Academy Vice Chairman Mukund Dwivedi and Secretary Nanak Chand also speak on the occasion.
