Key accused in Godhra train carnage arrested

Godhra, Mar 29: Soeb Abdul Sattar 'Biryani', one of the accused in the 'Sabarmati Express 'train carnage, was today arrested from his residence here.

Acting on a tip off, a posse of policemen carried out an intensive combing operation in the locality where the accused lived and arrested him after he was identified by his neighbours, through his ration card and other documents.

Police said that Soeb, used to work as a tea vendor, at the Godhra Railway Station till the fateful day of train carnage on February 27, 2002.

Ever since, Soeb was evading arrest. But, police learnt that he had switched to new job of hawking dress materils in small mofussil towns.

Ultimately, police got a wind that he would be visiting his home at Godhra. Deputy Superintendent of Police and Town Inspector along with their team, arrested Soeb from his home here today.

He has been handed over to the Railway Investigation Officer.
