JDU to ally with BJP in TN polls

Chennai, Mar 29 (UNI) The Janata Dal (United)'s Tamil Nadu unit today decided to forge an alliance with the BJP in the May 8 Assembly poll.

State President and Principal General Secretary K Rajasekaran and D Rajagopal, briefing reporters on the deliberations of their General Council Meeting here, said a resolution was adopted at the meeting.

They said the meeting had constituted a three member scrutiny committee to hold talks with the BJP and finalise seat sharing. The meeting also constituted three other committees for preparing a manifesto and looking after election work.

It was decided to contest in 30 Assembly segments, for which the party was receiving applications from aspirants from today till March 31. The final list of party candidates would be announced on April 1.

The meeting urged the State Chief Electoral Officer to ensure money was not given to voters by the ruling AIADMK and the DMK front and restrict propaganda like wall posters and use of vehicles.

It was decided to attend in large numbers the JD(U)'s national General Council meeting to be held at Patna on April 11 and 12.

The meeting appealed to the President and Election Commission to remove 42 Lok Sabha members as they were holding offices of profit.
