IED blast in Kashmir, two Lashker militants arrested, two surrender

Srinagar, Mar 29 (UNI) Militants triggered a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Mujagund in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, targetting a security force convoy this afternoon.

Official sources said militants detonated an IED on the Srinagar-Bandipora road at 1315 hours when a security force convoy was passing the area.

However, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) spokesman said the blast took place after two CRPF passed the area. There was no damage to any security force vehicles, he added.

Meanwhile, a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) spokesman claimed seven security jawans were killed after both the vehicles were damaged.

This was the third IED blast in the valley during the past two weeks.

Last week a blast took place on the high security airport road at Sanant Nagar causing injuries to six soldiers and a woman pedestrain.

Another blast took place on the Srinagar airport road causing damage to an electric pole. However, no one was injured in that blast.

A defence ministry spokesman said Marine commandos apprehended one militant and a Over Ground Worker (OGW) in Laudar near Bandipur.

The militant has been identified as Bashir Ahmed Lone of Pakistan based Lasahker-e-Toiba.

The identity of OGW is Pervez Ahmed Lone. One remote controlled IED, one Laser Pointer, photos of training camps in POK and militant and some incriminating documents have been recovered from the duo.

A report from Jammu said two Pakistan trained militants Javed (20) and Abdul Hameed (19) laid down their arms and ammunition before senior Army officials today.

The militants were active since 2001 when the terrorist outfit abducted them and sent them Pakistan. They handed over one AK 47 rifle, two AK magazines, 30 rounds of ak ammunition, six grenades and one pistol.

The Army officers hoped more misguided youth of the region who have joined militancy would take the cue from the surrendered ultra and rejoin the main stream.
