High tide affects bundh, 300 families

Barrackpore, Mar 29 (UNI) A 300 metres embankment along river Kalagachi at Atapur Taltala under Sandeshkhali Block-II in North 24 Parganas near here was damaged leaving at least 300 families homeless and causing huge financial losses.

According to Block Development Office sources, a high tide last evening resulted in the damage of the embankment that resulted in the washing away of three mud houses and affecting more than 300 families.

Moreover, 1000 bighas of water bodies engaged in pisciculture were overflown causing huge financial losses.

Block and Land Development Officer Prasanta Nayek soon rushed to Atpur island to take stock of the situation and the losses incurred.

However, no casualty was reported from anywhere.
