Heart hospital brings modern angiogram facility to B'lore

Bangalore, Mar 29 (UNI) The super-speciality Trinity Hospital and Heart Foundation has brought non-invasive coronary angiogram facility to the Silicon Valley of India for the first time.

The most modern technology in angiogram facility 64 slice, Cardiac CT Brilliance 64, started functioning from March 27. The Rs seven crore equipment, first of its kind in Karnataka and second in South India after Chennai, was shipped by Philips, Holland, Hospital Chairman and Chief of Cardiology Dr B G Muralidhara told newspersons here today.

He said the modern equipment, developed in June last year, was well received throughout the world and in the US alone, 200 machines were functioning. In India, this was the fifth equipment imported after Kolkata, Delhi and Chennai.

Dr Muralidhara said the equipment enabled conduct of angiogram on all parts of the body, unlike the existing system using which only heart angiogram could be done. The cost factor also worked out cheaper as patients were charged around Rs 9,000 for the facility as against Rs 15,000 for use of the present system.

He said the important fact was that the entire process of angiogram could be completed within a minute and absolutely without pain. Images of the heart could be captured within six seconds, any major organ of the body in one second and the entire body in 20 seconds. It could capture nearly 20,000 to 25,000 images of human body in 20 seconds.

This CT Angiography test could also detect Cholesterol Deposits in the heart arteries much earlier than any other tests, helping doctors to prevent major heart attacks.
