Mumbai, Mar 29 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today rejected the bail application of Dr Pardeep Palijibhai Parmar, a naturopath, who had been arrested for his alleged involvement in sexual harrasment of his female patients and rape.

Justice B M Kande, while rejecting the bail plea, in his order said Parmar's release on bail could influence the witnesses and also agreed with the prosecution's submission that accused was involved in serious crime.

Parmar was arrested on September 25 last year u/s 376 IPC for the alleged sexual harassment of his female patients as well as employees.

On December 30 last year, a sessions court had rejected his bail plea on the ground that primia facie material was available against him.

His counsel Rajender Shirodkar had told the court that his client was falsely implicated in the case as it was not a rape, but consensual intercourse.

The court was also told on February 15 that the prosecution had filed a charge-sheet against him. He had already undergone brain mapping and scientific tests and at present was in jail. No further investigation was to be done. Therefore, he should be ordered to be released on bail.

Opposing the plea, Assistant Government Pleader Manuwar Deshmukh had argued that the accused was involved in the specific crime against women which had its impact on the society. ''Release of such an accused on bail may send a wrong signal to society,'' he added.
