Governor advocates strict building code

Itanagar, Mar 29 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Governor S K Singh has called for formulation of a strict building code and its implementation considering the 'tectonic activity of unusual genre' in this region classified as quake prone zone.

Raj Bhawan sources today said expressing his deep concern over the low intensity earthquake measuring 5 in the Richter scale that affected Bhutan-Arunachal border in the early hours of March 26 last, the governor in a letter to Chief Minister Gegong Apang said, ''We cannot afford to allow our larger urban habitats to grow into townships without proper planning, rational landscaping and systematic refuse collection and proper sewerage.'' The governor called upon the civil society, political leaders and civil servants to be more sensitive in tackling disaster and meeting people's needs in eventualities like quake.
