Four people die in BDR firing

Kuchlibari, Mar 29 (UNI) With one person succumbing to injury today at the North Bengal Medical College, four people have died so far in the BDR firing incident.

Three Indian labourers were killed and five seriously injured after Bangladesh Border Rifles (BDR) jawans fired in the border areas yesterday.

The Indian labourers were repairing a road at a village under the Kuchlibari Gram Panchayat area in Mekhliganj subdivion, 150 yards from zero point, when the BDR suddenly opened fire.

North Bengal IG Shriram Tiwari, who visited the area today said the BSF personnel were put on alert to avoid any more untoward incident.

The seriously injured had been admitted to Jalpaiguri hospital.

Sources informed BSF and BDR personnel held flag meeting yesterday.

Tension prevailed in the area today also, sources added.
