'Exploit natural resources for agri'
Kohima, Mar 29: Nagaland Governor Shyamal Datta has urged the corporate and financial sectors to tap the rich natural resources of the NE with a view to promote agriculture and agri-business.
He asked them to be sensitive towards the sentiments of the people and environment of the region.
Addressing as the chief guest at the plenary session on 'North East Emerging Horizons in Agribusiness' in the ongoing NE Agri Expo at Dimapur last evening, Mr Datta said he was happy to see the big names present in the meet and hoped that the market forces smelt the potential in the region.
While lamenting that the agri sector was not given due priority in the past even by North Eastern Council (NEC) and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Mr Datta appreciated the new found attention towards the agri sector of the region.
Though pleased with this development, the governor cautioned that the new relationship could thrive only if there was synergy between profit driven commercial urge of investors and ecological sensitivity towards the unique bio-diversity of the region.
