Contraband items worth Rs 3.5 cr destroyed

Imphal, Mar 29 (UNI) Large quantities of contraband worth Rs 3.5 crores were destroyed by customs division, Imphal.

Customs officials here said all contraband items seized from 2003 till date were taken to a place at Imphal east and destroyed by the customs officials.

Customs officials said the destroyed items included 14,000 kg of ganja, 3781 cartoons of cigarettes and foreign liquor.

The goods were destroyed after getting the nod from the drug disposal committee of the division, officials added.

Meanwhile, the All Manipur Anti-Drug Association has intensified movement against liquor and use of intoxicants.

The association said it has launched a massive anti-drug campaign in the state.

In co-operation with the women vigilant groups, large quantities of liquor have been seized from different parts of the state.
