Congress demands disqualification of Rio
Kohima, Mar 29 (UNI) The Nagaland Congress has demanded disqualification of state Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio from the legislative assembly for holding two seperate offices of profit.
In a representation to Nagaland Governor Shyamal Datta yesterday, 16 Congress members of the state legislative assembly requested the Governor to take necessary action against Mr Rio, who is also holding the posts of Nagaland Sports Council and Nagaland Bamboo Mission chairman.
A copy of the representation has been given to the Chief Election Commissioner.
The Congress alleged the two additional posts are offices of profit and attracts disqualification under Article 191 (1) (a) of the Constitution of India.
In a separate Memorendum to the Governor, NPCC president Hokheto Sumi requested him to intervene into the matter of involvement of chief secretary Mr Lalhuma and additional chief secretary Mr Lalthara, who had participated in the party programme in the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) function on completion of three years in office on March 6.
