Company with terrorist links given port contract:CPI(M)
Hyderabad, Mar 29 (UNI) The CPI(M) today alleged that a Dubai company with terrorist links had been given the contract to construct the new port at Gangavaram in Visakhapatnam district.
Talking to reporters after an all-party meeting called by the government to sort out the problems of displaced fishermen of Gangavaram village, B V Raghavulu, State CPI(M) Secretary said the same Dubai company was awarded a contract by the US to construct six ports, and later scrapped as it was proven to have terrorist links.
Expressing apprehension that handing over the port to the company might be a threat to national security, Mr Raghavulu wanted the government to take up construction of the port in public sector.
He said the government had explained that the agreement with the Dubai company was signed during the TDP regime. Even then, it could be scrapped in national interest, he added.
