CCMB to clone Cheetah

Hyderabad, Mar 29 (UNI) The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Director Dr Lalgi Singh has announced that the CCMB was making prepartions to clone Cheetah in collaboration with a team of scientists from South Africa.

Addressing a press conference here, Dr Singh said a team of South African scientists would come to the CCMB and interact with the scientists at the instiute.

Cheetah is in the list of endangered species in the country.

Stating that South Africa would be the donor for the cloning, he explained that 'earlier the CCMB had discussed with Iran on this project. 'But, Iran was not willing to be a donor. and CCMB approached the South African government, he said.

Mr Singh said the CCMB has reached the 'Morula' stage in cloning of Rabbit, in a project launched last year.
