Sankararama case: Charges framed on 24 accused
Pondicherry, Mar 28: Charges were today (mar 28, 2006) framed against all the 24 accused in the Sankararaman murder case including prime accused Kanchi Acharyas Jayendra Saraswathi and Vijayendra Saraswathi.
As many as 14 charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 302 (Murder), 447 and 448 (criminal tresspass) and 201 (screening of evidence) were framed against the accused by the Pondicherry principal district and Sessions Judge M Chinnapandy.
Jayendra Saraswathi told the court he had nothing do with the case and it was deliberately foisted on him by the Tamil Nadu police. Junior Acharya Vijayendra Saraswathi and others also pleaded of not being guilty.
After framing the charges, the judge posted the case to April 17 for further hearing pending Supreme Court orders on the special leave petition (SLP) filed by the defence challenging the appointment of the Tamil Nadu Special Public Prosecutor.
