Woman gangraped and brutally murdered

Haridwar, Mar 27: A woman was allegedly gangraped and brutally murdered by three persons in the Katal village of Tehri district here.

Sources say the body of the victim, who was gangraped last evening, was recovered by her father-in-law, Bharosi Ram and other family members from a field near the village, where she had gone for work.

Naib tehasildar Shalini Negi, at the instructions of SDM M D Joshi, visited the spot. The husband of the victim, D C Upreti is an employee in a private company in Punjab.

Chairperson of the State Woman Commission Dr Santosh Chauhan, who, alongwith member of the commission Vimla Negi, visited the spot and talked to the family members of the victim today, told UNI that the perpetrators of such heinous crimes deserved the most severe punishment.

''I have instructed the district administration to arrest all the accused at the earliest'', she said adding that adequate financial assistance would also be provided to the bereaved family by the government.

Bharosi Ram has lodged a First Information Report with the revenue police against three persons -- Pappu, Sunderlal and a third unidentified person under sections 302 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code. All the three accused in the case are still absconding.

The police have sent the dead body of the victim to Narendra Nagar for a post mortem.
