Vengsarkar gives nod to BCCI for proposing his name as match referee

Mumbai, Mar 27 (UNI) Former captain Dilip Vengsarkar has given a green signal to the BCCI to propose his name for the ICC Match Referee panel.

Vengsarkar said here today that would be free from the post of the Chairman of the Talent Research Development wing of the Indian cricket board at the end of this month an so hadgievn his go ahead.

''I decided to accept the offer from the BCCI to propose my name for the position of the match referee,'' he said.

Vengsarkar also revealed that he had first been given an offer in 2002 but could not accept it as ''I was not free''.

Vengsarkar, whose specially done portrait is set to adorn the Lord's pavilion for his feat of scoring three Test centuries on the trot at the Mecca of cricket, said as per his information, ICC would decide on the panel of match referees in April.

Speaking about his portrait being hung at the Lords pavilion, Vengsarkar said that he has received a letter from the MCC seeking ''my permission to pose for the specially made portrait''.

''It is a big honour and I have said yes to the MCC proposal who are to send a painter to Mumbai for doing my portrait sometime in January 2007,'' he added.
