LONDON, Mar 27 (Reuters) Foreign Ministers from the United Nations Security Council permanent members plus Germany will meet to discuss Iran's disputed nuclear programme in Berlin on Thursday, Britain's Jack Straw said today.

The meeting will include the foreign ministers from the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France, all of whom have veto-wielding seats on the Security Council, as well as Germany which has negotiated with Iran alongside Paris and London.

''We are laying plans for a meeting of foreign ministers in Berlin to discuss the next steps in the Security Council,'' Straw told reporters.

Senior British officials said the meeting was aimed at building a consensus on what action to take after the UN's nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, reported Iran to the Security Council after Tehran restarted sensitive nuclear work earlier this year.

The British officials said the main goal was to persuade Russia to agree with other Council members on steps to be taken against Iran.

Western countries suspect Tehran of seeking nuclear weapons. Iran says its programme is strictly for civilian purposes.
