Two mentally retarded girls raped in HP

Dharamshala, Mar 27 (UNI) Police in Himachal Pradesh today said they have registered a complaint against a man who had allegedly raped two minor, mentally retarded girls of his distant relative 45 days after the incident.

Kangra SP S P Singh said a complaint was lodged after an NGO, Chinmayanand Mission at Sidhbari, brought the father of the daughters to the police station to register the complaint against his relative.

Refusing to divulge the name of the accused, as it would hamper investigations, he said the youth raped the girls during his stay at their home in Banner village of Kangra district 45 days ago.

Mr Singh said the accused was a resident of Nagri village and was working as a conductor in a private bus.

The incident was not reported to the police as their mother was mentally retarded too and the family was extremely poor, he said.

He said the matter was brought to the notice of the police by the NGO, which also persuaded father of the daughters to register his complaint with the police.

A case under section 376 of the IPC has been registered and the girls had been sent for medical examination, he said, adding that police team has been dispatched to Nagri to arrest the accused.
