Written by: Staff

Gorakhpur, Mar 27 (UNI) Samajwadi Party candidate Ram Bual Nishad was maintaining a lead from his nearest rival from Bharatiya Janata Party after round eight of counting in the Kauriram assembly bypoll today.

Mr Nishad was leading by a margin of 3390 votes in the Eastern UP constituency. He has, so far managed 19,420 votes, while BJP's Sheetla Pandey could muster 16,030 votes.

The bypoll was necessitated after the membership of Mr Nishad (then a BSP MLA) was terminated by the Supreme Court.

The bypoll, for which the BSP this time fielded no candidate, had taken place on March 25.
