Sonia resigned under compulsion : Shanta

Patna, Mar 27 (UNI) BJP vice-president and party in-charge for Bihar Shanta Kumar today said Ms Sonia Gandhi resigned from the Lok Sabha and National Advisory Council under ''political compulsion''.

Mr Kumar told newspersons here that Ms Gandhi was forced to resign after BJP's claims on the issue of the Congress president holding offices of profit were proved true.

He said attempts were made earlier to bring an ordinance to ''protect'' Ms Gandhi but the UPA government changed the mind after the Left parties backed out.

The former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister said Ms Gandhi's resignations could not be viewed as ''any sort of sacrifice'' but as an attempt to ''save her chair''.

"What happened to her moral conscience on issues like ''Food for Work'' programme with Iraq or the Bofors main accused Quattrochi," he added.

He said the partys ''Bharat Suraksha Yatra'' would begin from April 6 to sensitise people on such vital issues. He said the Yatra under leadership of Lal Krishna Advani and Rajnath Singh would enter into Bihar on April 13.

The Yatra would cover Gaya, Ara, Sasaram, Aurangabad, Patna, Vaishali, Saran, Siwan and Gopalganj districts in Bihar, he said adding, all preparations had been made for the two-day yatra in the state. He alleged that the UPA government had become unstable after the issue of office of profit' gained ground.

When asked whether mid-term poll was becoming a strong probability, he said nothing could be ruled out in politics.
