Shiv Sena would be wiped-off itself: Rane

Written by: Staff

Thane, Mar 27 (UNI) Maharashtra Revenue Minister Narayan Rane has told the Congressmen that they need not work towards ''finishing'' the Sena, as it will be wiped off by itself.

Addressing a rally last night at the Shivaji Maidan here, Mr Rane, who left the Shiv Sena last year, said he was happy being with Congress since the last eight months and expressed that he had received due importance in the party.

''Those who want to join the party will also be treated in the same manner,'' he assured.

He claimed that as many as 23 Shiv Sena corporators were in contact with him since they wanted to join the party, but due to ''technical reasons,'' their entry had been delayed.

''We know how to deal with the situation,'' he said and added, ''Our efforts will be to capture power in the Thane Municipal Corporation, followed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, for which the work is being done now itself,'' he added.

On the occasion, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Prabha Rau called upon the partymen to make the faction number one in the district.

Ms Rau said unless the parties delivered good work, they cannot survive. The days of getting votes on the basis of caste, creed or religion were a matter of past and what the citizens wanted now were ''services.'' ''You cannot get the public support for long just by wearing saffron attire and showing bricks of Ram temple,'' she said.

''A thorough analysis has revealed that what is needed is to approach the masses and fulfill their demands, which the Congress is doing now and hence, has revived itself,'' Ms Rau said.

She further said the now since the district has a total of 24 Assembly segments, her party would concentrate seriously to capture power and get maximum number of MLAs elected from Thane.

The rally was organised by Thane City Congress Committee.

A large number of Shiv Sainiks and those from NCP entered the Congress at the function and were welcomed by the MPCC chief.

She also inaugurated the renovated office of the party in the district and a website on the party unit here.
