Shabir welcomes Indo-Pak CBMs, address Kashmir for peace
Srinagar, Mar 27: Welcoming the Confidence Building Measures (CBM) taken by India and Pakistan to take forward the peace process, Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) President Shabir Ahmad Shah said lasting peace in the sub-continent would still remain a distant dream untill the Kashmir issue is resolved.
The CBM and other measures, including opening of new travel routes, being taken by India and Pakistan for the people of both the countries was a welcome step, Mr Shah said here today.
However, he said, ever lasting peace was not possible without resolving the Kashmir issue as per the wishes of the people of the state.
He said mere sanctioning of financial and other packages would never help in finding a lasting solution to the issue which has already claimed thousands of lives. The Kashmir issue has to be resolved taking into consideration its historical background, he said.
Mr Shah said though Indian government has a number of CBMs to remove the walls, but much more needs to be done to take forward the process.
Let them release all the detenues unconditionally and stop all Human Rights (HR) violations, he said adding, the CBMs taken so far has not brought about any change at the ground level in Kashmir where people are being killed in fake encounter, tortured in detention centres and women being molested.
He said how can one believe that India was sincere in its efforts when there was no change in the Indian policy on Kashmir.
