Settlement of 1947 West Pak Refugees needs consensus in J
Jammu, Mar 27 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government has ephasised that for the permanent and viable settlement of West Pakistan refugees who came to India in 1947 and were residing in Jammu, a general consensus in the state is essential.
Replying to questions raised by some members before the beginning of question hour, Transport Minister Mangat Ram Sharma said the solution to the issue can be achieved by a consensus in legislature and among political parties.
The Minister said in order to relieve refugees of various problems which prevented their being permanent state citiens, a unified approach by the legislators is a must, as it is a Constitutional matter involving various issues.
However, the government would try to resolve the issue in consultation with all parties in the legislature, as well as discussing it with the Centre government'', Sharma said.
''These refugees for not being the permanent residents of state are devoid of taking part in assembly elections though they participate in parliamentary elections,'' he added.
