Person with NBW can contest election : CEO
Guwahati, Mar 27 (UNI) Asom Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) J P Prakash today clarified that a person facing a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) could contest polls, if he had not been convicted.
''A person with an NBW against his name can run for the polls unless he is convicted,'' he told mediapersons here.
Even a person under detention, but not yet convicted, could be a candidate for the polls, Mr Prakash added, replying to an query regarding the arrest of Nationalist Congress Party candidate from Bokajan Lac Dewan Rongpi on Saturday.
Mr Rongpi was held and remamded in two days of police custody yesterday against an NBW in a 1996 dacoity case.
His nomination had been cleared by the Election Commission after scrutiny.
