Opposition stalls proceedings on Gangavaram lathicharge
Hyderabad, Mar 27 (UNI) Speaker K R Suresh Reddy today adjourned the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for the day even as the Opposition party members rushed to the well of the house and started a sit-in demonstration near the podium. The members are dissatisfied with the Government's ''negligent'' attitude towards fishermen affected by police firing in Gangavaram today.
When the House reassembled after two adjournments, the members of the main oppositon TDP, crowded near the Speaker's podium and raised slogans against the Government, demanding justice for fishermen, who would lose their livelihood in the wake of the Green Port being taken up through Public Private Partnership(PPP) route.
Amidst the din, the Speaker announced that all questions were deemed to have been answered. The Supplimentary estimates and the demands for grants for various departments were accepted.
Order was restored in the House when the Speaker announced that Home Minister Jana Reddy would make a statement.
When the TDP members, dissatisfied with the Government's reply, again rushed to the well of the House, the Speaker announced that the House was adjourned to meet again at 0830 hrs tomorrow.
