Nine submit nomination for West Bengal assembly elections

Kolkata, Mar 27 (UNI) With nine aspirants submitting papers today, altogether 22 candidates have so far filed nomination for the first phase of Assembly elections in West Bengal on April 17.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Debasish Sen said while three candidates submitted nominations in West Midnapore district, six filed their papers in Bankura.

In Purulia, the third district going to polls in the first phase, no one has so far filed nomination.

Today was the third day of filing nomination which will continue till March 31.

The notification for the second phase of elections will be issued tomorrow for polling in West Midnapore, Hooghly, Howrah and Nadia districts on April 22.

The last date for filing nomination for the second phase is April 4.

The third, fourth and fifth phases of polling in the state will be held on April 27 and May 3 and 8 respectively.

The CEO said he would hold a video conference with all District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police on March 29 on poll preparedness.
