Mom eyes Beijing Olympics to scout bride for gold medalist Gagan
Lucknow, Mar 27 (UNI) While the Commonwealth Games gold medalist shooter Gagan Narang has set his eyes on 2008 Beijing Olympics for a podium finish, mother Amarjeet Narang is awaiting the quadrennial event s that she can start scouting the ''perfect bride'' for her target-piercing son.
''Though Gagan is very young at 23, but the search for the right bride is likely to start once the Beijing Games are over. The completion of Beijing Games may well kickstart my search for the perfect daughter-in-law,'' averred Ms Narang while talking to UNI.
On cloud nine following her son's four gold winning feat in Melbourne, Amarjeet, chief architect with the Central Command here proudly declared that Gagan's next target will be to first qualify for the Beijing Olympics and then produce a podium finish, perhaps a step better than that of Major Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore's performance in Athens.
Ms Narang said Gagan's Olympic debut at Athens 2004, was not very encouraging, with the Hyderabadi of Punjabi origin, finishing a poor 12th and resultantly failing to make it to the final round.
''The two gold medals at the Commonwealth Shooting Championship 2005 in Australia and the four golds in the same Melbourne shooting arena now, in itself, speak volumes about the crest of confidence on which Gagan was currently riding. Hard work and determination with rightful guidance will certainly secure Gagan an unforgettable podium finish at the Beijing Games,'' gushed out Amarjeet.
The rifle-shooter's mother, however, believed that Gagan has a long way to go before clinching Olympic glory and must start working hard on it right from now.
''I know he is the kind of shooter who never wrests on laurels and will start preparing for the World Cups. A stellar performance only will earn him a candidature to take a shy at the Beijing Olympic Shooting arena,'' she said.
And how would the proud mother welcome her champion son.
''Perhaps Hyderabadi Biryani and other non-veg delights that Gagan is fond of besides hitting the bulls eye in the shooting arena,'' Amarjeet added.
Gagan's four Commonwealth Games gold comprise of individual golds in the 10 m and 50 m air rilfe event, besides pairing with Abhinav Bindra, for golds in the same events.
