Lucknow, Mar 27 (UNI) The public resentment has started showing up in different forms here following the death of Meher Bhargava even as the Uttar Pradesh government suspended two police sub-inspectors in connection with the investigation in the case.

Ms Bhargava, a former lawyer and wife of a Congress leader Luv Bhargava, was shot and critically injured by miscreants in the busy Hazratganj area on February 28 last, when she raised a voice against lewd remarks being passed on her daughter-in-law.

She was partially paralysed following the bullet injury and breathed last at a hospital in the national capital on Saturday.

Shocked over the incident, which occured at a place barely few yards away from the SSP residence and police officers mess, the residents of Lucknow have decided to unite and raise their voices against the crime.

The local citizens will be holding a candle light meeting in the city this evening. Other means of public communication like SMSs are also being used to garner people's solidarity against the crime.

Sensing the public mood, UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav not only visited her residence but assured speedy action against the prime accused in the case.

Dismissing the allegations that the four criminals were being protected, he said, ''The police is making all efforts... no one would be spared''.

Soon after Mr Yadav's visit, the police suspended Senior SI and Investigating Officer Dinesh Chandra Dubey and SI K M Rai. Mr Yadav has also asked the IG (Zone), Lucknow to ensure expedient action.
