Lucknow, Mar 27 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh assembly today approved the Bill for setting up the Manglayatan University at Aligarh in the private sector.

However, the opposition bench opposed the bill claiming the state government was not competent to enforce the conditions on such private unversity and demanded the bill be sent to the house's select committee, which was however rejected.

State agriculture minister Ashok Vajpayee, while piloting the Manglayatan University Uttar Pradesh Bill-2006, clarified there were strict conditions on the varsity and it had to follow the UGC rules and guidelines.

He said, without private entrepeneurship in the sector, education could not be uplifted in UP as the government had minimum resources.

The proposed varsity will be promoted by Acharya Kundkund Educational Society, Aligarh.

UP government today also tabled UP Agriculture and Technology Unversity (Amendment) Bill 2006, which will enable teachers of any varsity -- working on ad hoc basis since December 31, 1997 -- to be regularised/appointed.
