Man to appear in court over cartoon protest
LONDON, Mar 27 (Reuters) A 23-year-old man will appear in court today, charged with soliciting murder and inciting racial hatred at a February demonstration in London over the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad.
Police said they had charged Mizanur Rahman yesterday. He will appear at Bow Street Magistrates Court later.
Rahman is the fourth person to be charged after hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the Danish embassy in London on February 3, chanting and waving placards.
Some of those on the march held up banners praising the July 7 London bombings which killed 52 people on the transport network last year.
The spontaneous demonstration attracted widespread political condemnation.
The publication of the cartoons in some European media prompted uproar in the Islamic world, with thousands taking to the streets to protest. Many Muslims believe it is blasphemous to depict the Prophet.
