K'taka Govt to reconsider decision on CET ranking

Bangalore, Mar 27 (UNI) The Karnataka Government will reconsider its decision not to include PUC marks in ranking students for medical and dental courses, Higher Secondary Education Minister D H Shankaramurthy informed the State Legislative Council today.

Replying to a discussion on the issue, initiated by Leader of the Opposition H K Patil in the House, he said he was ready to combine PUC marks along with that of CET for ranking the students if no such guideline was given by the Medical Council of India, as pointed out by the members.

Criticising the Government's move to exclude PUC marks while preparing the merit list, Mr Patil said the Government's dependancy on CET marks only would make the PUC course redundant and not protect the interests of rural students.

Members, cutting across party lines, termed the Government's decision as ''pro-urban'' and questioned its commitment to provide social justice to all sections of the society.

A decision was taken to go into the issue in the presence of Council Chairman V R Sudarshan tomorrow, after Mr Patil raised such a demand.
