K'taka, Andhra tinsel towns join hands for starnite

Bellary, Karnataka, Mar 27 (UNI) A cultural extravaganza 'Ugadi Utsav-2K6' is awaiting the residents of this district on April two for promoting art and entertainment, besides showcasing the magnificent and rich heritage of both Kannada and Telugu people. Organised by the Karnataka-Andhra Lalitkala Academy (KALA), the mega event would see the participation of about 250 artistes from the Telugu and Kannada tinsel town, including actors, playback singers, dancers and musicians.

KALA Founder-President and veteran actor Saikumar told reporters here today that while veteran actress Jayanthi and Music Director Hamsalekha would inaugurate the star-studded show by lighting the lamp, Junior NTR of Kollywood would be the chief guest and local matinee idol Sudeep the special guest. Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu would preside over and former Deputy Chief Minister M P Prakash and Tourism and Textiles Minister B Sreeramulu would be the guests of honour. A galaxy of film stars, including Srikanth, Tarun, Raviteja, Rohith, Venugopal, Vinodkumar, Ali and Sneha, would grace the show.

On the occasion, KALA would honour Malashree and Ramu as the best couple of the year, besides felicitating veteran actors Anjali Devi, Rajendra Prasad, Ramanmurthy, K S Aswath, Urvashi Tara and K Hirannaiah. Also, P B Srinivas (playback singer), Shubha Dhanunjay (danseuse), V N Subbarao (journalism), Venkatapathi Raju (cricket) and Tejaswini Ananthakumar (social service) would be honoured for excelling in their chosen fields, he said.

The event would be live telecast by MAA TV of Hyderabad and ten big screens would be erected at the venue for the benefit of the locals.
