Haryana minister wants job for C'wealth medallists
Chandigarh, Mar 27 (UNI) Haryana Minister of State for Forests, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Kiran Choudhary today urged the Chief Minister to provide house and government job to all those players who had brought laurels to the state and country.
Ms Choudhary is a member of the organising committee of the Commonwealth Games to be held in India in 2010. The members of this committee had gone to Melbourne during the recent Commonwealth Games.
Ms Choudhary said that Akhil Kumar, Vijender, Jitender and Seema Antil of Haryana have brought name and fame to the country by winning medals in the Melborne Commonwealth Games.
Akhil Kumar won a gold medal in boxing, Vijender, a silver medal while Jitender won a bronze medal. She congratulated these players and boosted their morale. She also telephonicall congratulated the parents of all these players.
It may be recalled that the medal winning boxing players stayed in the SAI hostel in Bhiwani.
This hostel was established in 1986 by former Haryana minister the late Surender Singh, husband of Mrs Choudhary.
Discussions were held to transfer this hostel out of Bhiwani but by persistent efforts of Ms Choudhary and the then Union Sports Minister, late Mr Sunil Dutt, the hostel was not transferred.
