Freedom fighter Shkuntala Goel passes away

Meerut, Mar 27: A veteran freedom fighter, Ms Shkuntala Goel, died here last night following a protected illness.

She was 99.

The mortal remains of Ms Goel were placed for public viewing at Arya Samaj, Budhanagate, here today.

She would be cremated at Sooraj Kund Shamshan Ghat, according to her last wishes.

She Goel was very much influenced by Mahatma Gandhi's ideology.

In 1930, she decided to dedicate her life for the freedom of the country. She was also sent to jail for leading a women's procession in 1940.

Ms Goel was nominated as the Chairperson of the Women Conference 1973, held in Mauritius. She also represented India in the World Women Conference in 1980.

Many healthcare centers and educational institutions have been established by Ms Goel in Uttar Pradesh.
