Five people gets life imprisonment for involvement in a murder case

Barasat, Mar 27 (UNI) Five people, involved in the murder of a college girl, were sentenced to life imprisonment today by a district court here in North 24 Parganas.

Additional District and Sessions Judge of a fast track court here gave verdict against the five accused for killing a graduate student of Birati Mrinalini College, dragging her out of her home under Deganga police station in April, 2003.

Sessions Judge Tapas Mukherjee has sentenced Jakir Hossain, Hafijur Rahman alias Chantu, Babur Ali, Saurat Ali and Sirajul Haque to life imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000 each or additional imprisonment for 5 years if somebody fails to pay the fine. The accused were found guilty u/s 302, 120 B, 307 and 324 IPC.

The court, however, acquitted six others accused in this case, the Prosecutor said.

He added that the accused had hurled bomb on the victim after dragging her out of home. The incident had caused sensation in the area.

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya had ordered police to book the culprits involved in the case.

One of the guilty, Hafijur Rahman alias Chantu of Bhangar in South 24 parganas wanted to marry Jehnara Khatun, against her wish.
