DPI promises to work for oppressed classes

Chennai, Mar 27 (UNI) The Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) will fight for the rights of the oppressed classes and economic uplift of Dalits besides working for reservation in private sector.

Announcing this after releasing the party's election manifesto here today, DPI General Secretary Thol Thirumavalavan said the party will focus on backward and oppressed classes and strive for their progress.

The DPI will seek separate reservation for Muslims in jobs and education sector besides establishment of reserved constituencies with double ballot system.

It will work to protect the state's interests, including its riparian rights in the inter-state sharing of river water.

Tamil language will be given due importance by introducing it as a medium of instruction at all levels.

The DPI will voice its support for Sri Lankan Tamils' cause and women's rights besides working to protect the interests of workers, fishermen and physically challenged people.

Communal forces will be defeated by the DPI and it would seek SC status for Dalit Christians.

For Pondicherry, the party promised to work for securing B2 status for the union territory and reservation for locals in private sector employment.
