Dhoni selected for 'Parvat Gaurav Samman'

Lucknow, Mar 27 (UNI) Team India wicket keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been selected for the 'Parvat Gaurav Samman'.

Parvatiya Mahaparishad General Secretary T S Manral told UNI here today, Dhoni had brought laurels to India with his superb display in the game.

''He has also added to the glory of Uttaranchal,'' he observed.

Since, Dhoni is busy with the one-day series against England, the award will be personally handed over to the cricketer's family at their Ranchi residence by a Mahaparishad delegation, Manral informed.

Born on July 7, 1981 at Ranchi (Jharkhand) and nicknamed Mahi, he hails from Almora district of Uttaranchal.

Dhoni made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in December 2005 at Chennai and made valuable 30 runs. The match was drawn.

Dhoni's ODI debut came against Bangladesh at Chittagong in 2004-05.

He made his first-class debut in the 1999-2000 season.

The sturdy cricketer's 148 against Pakistan at Vishakapatnam and a mammoth 183 (not out) against Sri Lanka -- when he broke Adam Gilchrist's record of 172 for the highest score by a wicketkeeper in ODIs -- established him as a clinical destroyer of bowling attacks.
