New Delhi, Mar 27 (UNI) The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct a re-examination on April 8 for more than 2,500 tenth standard students whose Science and Technology answer-books were destroyed in a fire here last week.

The Board has also given the students an option to accept the average marks in the best of three subjects instead of the re-examination.

''The re-examination will be conducted on April 8 and if a student wants, he or she can accept the average marks for their best of three subjects,'' a senior CBSE official told UNI.

CBSE has identified 20 examination centres as ''affected'' where students from several schools had written their papers.

The Board decided to conduct the re-examination yesterday at the Examination Committee Meeting.

Nearly 2,500 answer sheets of Science and Technology paper were gutted in a fire at Ludlow Castle Sarvodaya Vidhyalaya on Shamnath Marg in North-Delhi on March 23 due to a suspected short-circuit.

The students must get in touch by Wednesday with their respective schools about their roll numbers, he added.

The numbers would be displayed by the school authorities and put on CBSE's website www.cbse.nic.in by Wednesday.
