Australian woman arrested at Mumbai airport with five kg hashish

Mumbai, Mar 27 (UNI) An Australian woman carrying more than five kg of hashish, worth Rs 28 lakh in the international market, was arrested at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at Sahar yesterday, customs officials today said.

Customs officers of the Air Intelligence Unit, on suspicion, intercepted Ms Trueman Kelly Rae (24), holding an Australian passport, just before she was about to depart from Mumbai to Vienna by the Austrian Airways flight number OS-036.

The examination of her checked-in suitcase resulted in the recovery of a dark brown colour substance, perported to be hashish, weighing 5.680 kg, concealed in a false bottom of the suitcase, the Commissioner of Customs and Air Intelligence Unit of the Airport here in a release today.

A case has been registered against the arrested woman under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

In her statement, the passenger admitted to the posesssion, carriage, concealment and recovery of the narcotic drugs for monetary consideration of Euro 5,000.
