AP ICT project reaches finals of Stockholm Challenge Award-2006

Hyderabad, Mar 27 (UNI) Khammam's IT initiative ''Giripragna'' has been selected for the finals of Stockholm Challenge Award 2006 in Education category.

Stockholm Challenge Award was world's leading Information and Communication Technology (ICT) prize -- for entrepreneurs who use ICT to improve living conditions and increase economic growth.

Few days back ''Priskruthi'', a grievance redressal project was first selected for the finals for the Award.

Giripragna was an initiative implemented for imparting computer education for 10,000 tribal students every year in a systematic manner so that they are in par with the plain area students.

The finalists will meet in Stockholm to receive their awards and recognitions for being amongst the best ICT intiatives in the world.

The finalist projects in the six challenge categories from 53 countries are all invited to come to Stockholm and participate in the final event on May 8-11. The winners in each category will be announced during the prize celebrations in the Stockholm City Hall on May 11.

All the four IT projects conceived by the District Collector Rajendra Nimje have got national and international recognition.

The two IT projects -- e-immunization and Health Call Center -- have received Silver Icon and Bronze Icon repsectively in the 9th National e-Governance Awards last month. The other two projects -- Pariskruthi, a ray of hope for the voiceless petitioner and Giripragna have reached finals for Stockholm Challenge Awards 2006.

This was the only project selected in entire India under education category, according to a press release here.
