Two militants killed and a sarpanch injured

Srinagar, Mar 27: Two militants were killed and a sarpanch injured in the Kashmir valley late last night, official sources said today (Mar 27, 2006).

They said security forces, acting on a tip off, cordoned off village Sheikhnar Sogam in North Kashmir last night to nab militants. However, when the security forces were searching the village, militants attacked them with automatic weapons. The fire was returned and in the fierce clash one militant was killed.

An AK rifle along with other arms and ammunition was recovered from the slain militant.

In yet another encounter at Kupwara, security forces killed a militant. Two security personnel also got injured in the shootout, the official sources said.

Besides, militants shot at and wounded Abdul Ahad, a sarpanch at Qazigund in south Kashmir last night.
