Siliguri, Mar 26 (UNI) West Bengal Urban Development and Municipal Minister Ashok Bhattacharya today held the tea planters responsible for current poor status of workers in the tea estates of North Bengal.

Addressing the Annual General meeting of Terai Indian Planters Association (TIPA) here, Mr Bhattacharya said the planters were not taking adequate care of the gardens as well as the workers and that led to poor economic health of the tea industry.

He said the owners were only after profit and were neglecting the welfare of the workers.

He said the government was trying its best to make the workers of the tea industry happy.
